Invisible Heroes
Colgate wanted to move away from clinical perfection. So, we traveled into the rugged, high-altitude mountains of Peru to follow the traveling odontologists bringing dental care to communities isolated by geography.
The Problem
The Reality: In the windswept pueblos of Salpo, a toothache isolates children from school and adults from work. Basic care requires hours of dangerous, unaffordable travel.
The Industry Wall: For decades, oral care ads have shown only flawless smiles in pristine, city offices—turning a basic human right into a perceived luxury.
The Insight
"A smile is a person's first language, but in the forgotten corners of La Libertad, silence is safer than showing your teeth."
Oral health is deeply tied to human dignity. In isolated communities like Salpo in Otuzco, dental decay causes deep emotional shame; children hide their mouths when they laugh, and elders suffer in quiet isolation. The traveling odontologists aren’t just cleaning teeth or filling cavities, they are restoring a person's pride, unlocking their voice, and giving them back their dignity. They aren't just treating a medical condition; they are healing a spirit.
The Execution
A multi-layered, narrative campaign that bridges the high-altitude realities of Salpo in Otuzco with a global audience through real-world infrastructure and direct social connection. The strategy is executed across three primary pillars:
01 / Experiential Transit Exhibition Immersive photographic galleries inside major US transit hubs, bringing urban commuters face-to-face with the dust-filled reality of the Peruvian mountains.
02 / Documentary Social Strategy Raw, real-time storytelling that traded sterile white coats for human endurance, capturing the grueling journeys as they happened.
03 / Grassroots Action On-the-ground educational workshops providing sustainable oral care tools directly to the communities that need them most.
